Inks are classified differently based mainly on their drying methods that in turn are based on vehicle each ink uses.

Quick-Set Inks	Inks utilizing resin-oil-solvent mixture	Used in offset lithography and provides for optimum results when printed on cast-coated paper and enamel paper
Heatset inks	These inks utilize solvent-resin vehicle which dries primarily through evaporating solvent from vehicle and further re-cooling remaining ink components	Used in web offset lithography
Moisture-Set Inks	Inks utilizing glycol vehicle which dries primarily through precipitation
Radiation-Curing Inks	Inks utilizing complex vehicles which polymerize and harden upon exposure to radiation including ultraviolet light/beams of electrons/ infrared light
Metallic Inks	Inks used in specialty applications where metallic luster is desired in printed image
